Wang Di, born in 1997 in Enshi, Hubei, China, is of Tujia ethnicity. He graduated from the Yunnan Academy of Arts with a major in Drama, Film, and Television Directing. Wang Di began creating short films in college, covering genres of drama, experimental film, documentary, and animation.Additionally, as an interdisciplinary artist, Wang Di engages in experimental filmmaking, writing, painting, and still photography. He has exhibited and had artist talks in various independent or official organizations, universities, and their museums.
In 2021, his debut feature film, "The Vessel’s Isle," won "Best Director" at the 5th Work-in-Progress Lab (WIP) Pingyao International Film Festival and was selected for the 20th Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) WIP production project under the "HAF GOES TO CANNES" program.
In 2024, Wang Di completed the film “The Vessel’s Isle”, which has been selected for the Asian Future Competition section of the 37th Tokyo International Film Festival, where it will has its world premiere.
Wang Di's works have received nominations at the Tokyo International Film Festival, DMZ International Documentary Film Festival in South Korea, Pingyao International Film Festival, and NEW ERA Youth Film Season in China, as well as the Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF), Montreal Independent Film Festival in Canada, and Italian Golden Short Film Festival.
